A FRENCH INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL IN BANGKOK
OFFERING BILINGUAL EDUCATION WITH GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE

Sequoia Nova is a French international primary school in Bangkok, created for French‑speaking, bilingual and international families who value a demanding, outward‑looking education. Like the sequoia itself, each child sinks deep academic roots in the French National Curriculum while flourishing through daily immersion in English.

Mornings are devoted to solid French foundations delivered within a clear, progressive framework; afternoons burst into life with collaborative projects in English that spark creativity, independence and social growth through Project‑Based Learning.

Individual work plans and a carefully sequenced system of competency belts steer every learner at a pace that suits them, lifting barriers and inspiring ever higher goals.

True to the name Nova, which suggests light and renewal, we weave in interdisciplinary projects, concise video pre‑lessons and thoughtfully chosen digital tools—ensuring learning stays vivid, structured and fully aligned with the challenges of tomorrow.

READING

Our reading journey begins with a systematic, 100% syllabic approach that is both progressive and rigorous. In Year 2 we employ the APILI programme, whose blend of humour, mnemonic gestures and clear phonology enables children to decode quickly while understanding and enjoying what they read from the very start.

As they move into Years 3 and 4, the emphasis shifts to fluency, deep comprehension and genre‑specific strategies. Guided reading, literature circles and explicit teaching of reading techniques help each learner become a confident, reflective reader, able to analyse and interpret a wide range of texts.

WRITING

Writing instruction follows a carefully sequenced progression in spelling, grammar, conjugation and vocabulary. We highlight orthographic regularities and use an innovative horizontal conjugation grid so children grasp patterns before memorising them. New language points are immediately reinvested in purposeful tasks—stories, reports, letters and project journals—giving every piece a real audience and clear intent. Short video capsules introduce certain concepts at home, freeing class time for lively, hands‑on workshops. In this way, precision and creativity grow together, shaping resilient young authors.

MATH

Mathematics unfolds from concrete manipulation to abstraction, in line with current didactic research. From Year 2 to Year 4 we draw on Rémi Brissiaud’s methods—Les Noums followed by J’apprends les maths—which make number sense visual, tactile and intuitive. Concepts are continually woven into broader projects through games, practical materials and motivating problem‑solving activities, so learners see mathematics as both meaningful and exciting.

COMPETENCY BELTS

Assessment acts as a driver of learning, not a label.

  • Each belt represents a clearly defined mastery point—“agree a verb”, “read with expression”, “solve a multi‑step problem”.
  • Learners self‑assess, demonstrate skills in varied contexts and progress at their own pace.
  • Families receive a transparent progress chart, giving a precise view of strengths and next steps.

The system adds meaning, celebrates every gain and strengthens both autonomy and responsibility.
